Do I need planning permission for a patio?
No, with the correct drainage installed, a patio will not require any planning permission except in rare cases such as being in a conservation area. Newlook Surfacing can discuss with you further if you have any specific requirements.
Does a patio have to be attached to a house?
Depending on the layout of your garden, it might make better sense to lay your patio away from your house if there is a better location, for example where there is most sunlight. In order to utilise your space most effectively, it is better to place it in the best position rather than being limited by attaching it to your house.
What is the best patio for durability and low maintenance?
Different materials for patios will require different amounts of maintenance. For example, a sandstone patio in the shade will get more moss growth than a stone resin-bound patio. This is due to the sandstone patio staying wet and promoting moss growth. Generally, power washing every couple of years will leave the patio looking pristine. Should you want an easier way of cleaning, you can seal the top with a matt or wet-look sealer.
