The Job:

After discussing the project in detail with the clients, we created a clear plan to bring their ideas to life. Our focus was on meeting their three key requirements: expanding the available space, removing the overbearing tree, and creating a cohesive, well‑designed block paving driveway that complemented the style of their home.

Solution:

To deliver on all three priorities, we took the space right back to its foundations and rebuilt it with intention. Removing the large tree and the deteriorating wall instantly opened up the frontage, creating a brighter, more usable area and giving us the freedom to rethink the layout from scratch. With the obstacles gone, we were able to design a driveway that maximised parking space, improved access, and made day‑to‑day use far more practical for the homeowner. From there, we introduced a modern block paving finish carefully chosen to complement the property’s exterior, ensuring the colours and textures tied seamlessly into the home’s existing character. The result is a driveway that not only feels more spacious and functional but also enhances the overall look of the house, creating a clean, cohesive entrance that feels like it has always belonged.

Excavation and Ground Preparation
The team began by digging out the old driveway to the correct depth, removing the existing driveway surface, the tree and roots were removed, and any unstable ground was levelled out ready for the new driveway to be installed.

Precison Edging

With the foundation in place, new edging blocks were set around the perimeter of the driveway to define the shape and keep the paving securely locked in. Any necessary drainage channels or falls were planned at this stage to ensure water flows away from the property. A layer of sharp sand was then added and carefully screeded to a perfectly level, smooth surface. This creates the exact bed the blocks need to sit evenly and ensures the finished driveway drains correctly and looks seamless.

Block Laying, Jointing and Final Compaction
The chosen block‑paving pattern was laid by hand with tight, consistent joints, working methodically across the driveway to maintain alignment and cohesion. Once all blocks were in place, kiln‑dried sand was brushed into the joints to lock them together. The entire surface was then compacted with a vibrating plate, bedding the blocks firmly into the sand layer and creating a durable, interlocked finish that’s ready for everyday use

Results:

The transformation of this driveway is immediately noticeable from the moment you approach the property. With the large tree and failing wall removed, the entire frontage now feels open, bright, and far more practical. What was once a cramped, uneven space has become a clean, spacious area that makes daily parking and manoeuvring effortless. The homeowner now has room to comfortably park multiple vehicles without the awkward angles or tight squeezes they previously dealt with.
Aesthetically, the new block paving has completely elevated the look of the home. The colours and textures were chosen to complement the property’s exterior, creating a cohesive, well‑designed finish that ties everything together. Instead of the mismatched, dated surfaces that once dominated the space, the driveway now feels intentional, modern, and perfectly in keeping with the character of the house. It’s a genuine boost to kerb appeal and gives the home a much more polished first impression.

Beyond the visual impact, the driveway is built for long‑term performance. With a solid sub‑base, precise installation, and improved drainage, the new surface is stable, durable, and ready for years of everyday use. The result is a driveway that not only looks fantastic but genuinely enhances how the homeowner uses their space.
